Agape’s Story
Agape is part of the original herd and has been at the ranch since before Rowdy Girl became a sanctuary. She has endured the heartbreaking experience of having her babies taken away time and time again, loaded onto the red trailer. Agape has witnessed the sadness that the founder saw as a rancher’s wife—a part of the “business” where these beautiful beings were not recognized for who they truly are but were seen as numbers. Because of this, Agape carries the anger of the herd. She has, understandably, been wary and fearful of anyone who comes near the herd, worried that her family and friends might be taken away again. It tears at the founder’s heart to think of the fear they must have endured.
But now, since the ranch has become a sanctuary, Agape and everyone she loves are safe, free to roam as they were meant to, together. Although she is sometimes still uncertain of newcomers and keeps a watchful eye on those who approach, with time, all wounds heal. The sanctuary team has gained—and will continue to gain—her trust and respect.
This old girl has seen a lot in her time, but now things are different. The people at the sanctuary have changed, creating a haven for these animals where none existed before. As a result, Agape’s whole world has changed for the better. Her days are now filled with lazing in the sun, hanging out with the humans, and leading the herd as their eldest (and wisest!) member.
