Henry’s Story

Henry was surrendered by a compassionate couple, Rosie and Francisco. When they reached out, they were desperate to find a home for Henry, the sole survivor of his family, which had included his mother, father, and siblings. Rosie and Francisco had lovingly cared for the small flock of geese at a location away from their homestead, providing them with fresh food, water, and attention every day.

In late March 2024, as they went to tend to the geese like they did every day, they were met with an eerie silence. The door to the enclosure was slightly open, and the scene was devastating. The ground was littered with scattered feathers and the bodies of the geese. The mother goose was barely clinging to life, while Henry, unharmed but terrified, huddled in a corner of the coop.

Henry’s mother passed away the following day, leaving Rosie and Francisco unsure of what to do with him. Traumatized by witnessing the slaughter of his family, which appeared to have been caused by a pack of dogs, Henry needed a safe place to heal. When he arrived at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, he was withdrawn and frightened.

Today, Henry has transformed. He is now outgoing, confidently following the animal care staff, and proudly strutting around, honking happily as a cherished member of the Rowdy Girl flock.
