Lotus’s Story
Lotus, the potbelly pig, was surrendered to Rowdy Girl Sanctuary when cramped conditions at her previous home caused her to become increasingly aggressive toward their dog, resulting in harm. However, instead of simply “getting rid” of Lotus, her family compassionately explored other options, for which the sanctuary is deeply grateful. The bond between Lotus and her previous family is profound—they did not want her to become a victim of slaughter or euthanasia. Now, they can visit and continue to love Lotus. They have become members, volunteers, and an integral part of the sanctuary’s community. The process has truly changed their lives.
This is the Mass family’s story:
“Due to a heartbreaking situation we didn’t anticipate, we needed to find an outdoor, forever home for Lotus, our potbelly pig. She’s like a family member, so we were devastated and worried we wouldn’t be able to find the right home for her. We were incredibly thankful when Renee called to tell us they had room for Lotus. We joined their “Families Choosing Compassion” program to cover Lotus’ monthly expenses and support their mission.
Renee and the staff always welcome us kindly when we visit Lotus. Lotus energetically greets us each time, and we quickly fall back into our sweet routines—she lies between our legs, expecting lots of belly rubs, and sits sweetly for slices of apples.
Lotus has fit right in with the other potbelly pigs, Ivy and Lulu. She’s also quite entertained by the friendly, roaming goats. It’s a dream home for her! It’s such a relief to know she’s being loved and well-cared for by the dedicated staff. We’ve enjoyed visiting the other sweet animals that have found refuge there and always leave with a smile on our faces.”
The Mass family are not only generous monthly members but also visit Lotus regularly. Lotus is always so happy to see them.
