Murray’s Story
Murray came to Rowdy Girl Sanctuary in 2016 from a horse sanctuary that did not have the resources to care for him.
Representatives from the horse sanctuary searched for a place that would take in Murray and seven other cows. After contacting many sanctuaries that couldn’t accommodate them, they found Rowdy Girl Sanctuary. The sanctuary mobilized to make space for Murray and his friends, who are now living happily at Rowdy Girl.
When Murray was originally rescued, he was severely malnourished and needed to be nursed back to health. Although he eventually reached a healthy weight, his massive frame put a strain on his joints, leading to arthritis. His ankle and hoof often had to be bandaged due to a chronic abscess. After constant treatment and care, the abscess did not recur, but he still needed to take an anti-inflammatory every day. Murray was such a good boy—he would eagerly gobble down his medication when it was hidden inside a banana or an orange. Since he was considered geriatric, the sanctuary team constantly observed his condition daily to keep him comfortable.
We are so sad to let you know of our beloved Murray’s passing. Many of yall met Murray, and fed him lots of apples and bananas. It’s been a sad time for us here at Rowdy Girl, particularly for Renee, Tommy and Big Bird. Please watch Tommy’s and Renee’s eulogy below to our beloved boy. We love you, Murray.
