Roo’s Story
Roo was one of those horses that everyone loved. He was sweet, mild-mannered, and reminiscent of a unicorn. With one blue eye and one brown eye, he had a unique charm, and the founder Renee always said that if you looked just right, you could see an iridescent spiral coming forth from between his eyes. Roo was truly magical. He was acquired from Renee’s niece about nine years ago when she was unable to provide adequate space for him. Roo instantly became part of the sanctuary family and, over time, was cherished by everyone who came to visit.
In 2021, Roo developed a lump on his neck that was diagnosed as inoperable cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). As time passed, the cancer worsened, and the sanctuary team was warned that the day would come when they would have to make the hard decision to say goodbye to their beloved friend. Although the vet thought Roo might make it through the summer, the cancer spread to his jaw, and the wound simply would not heal.
The sanctuary is incredibly grateful for the memories, love, and cherished moments shared with Roo. If you knew him, the team would love to hear your memories as well. So long, dear friend—run free across the rainbow bridge.
