Roux’s Story

Roux was a 253-pound, 6-month-old Hampshire Swine who didn’t make the cut at the Fort Bend County Fair. The family made the compassionate decision to let her live out her life at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary instead of sending her off on the refrigerator truck bound for slaughter. She narrowly missed that fate at the last moment when her hero, the father, discovered Rowdy Girl Sanctuary’s website, made contact, and began the process to coordinate her rescue.

Roux is another victim of the FFA school ‘projects’ that teach children to care for these animals with the intent of preventing them from forming emotional bonds

There are countless others like Roux in the world. If Roux could talk, she would want everyone to know that pigs are ‘friends, not food.’ It was because of Roux that Rowdy Girl Sanctuary fell in love with pigs and appreciated the students who opened their hearts to recognize the animals’ right to live and be free.
