Hay is one of the most essential and costly needs at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, especially for our rescued cows who rely on it daily for proper nutrition, digestive health, warmth, and overall wellbeing. Under normal conditions, much of our pastureland helps supplement feeding, but the severe droughts and unpredictable weather patterns across Texas over the last year and a half to two years have drastically impacted pasture growth and hay availability. As grazing land continues to struggle and hay prices remain high, purchased hay has become essential to daily life at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary. For the animals who depend on it, hay provides critical nourishment; for others, it helps create clean, dry, comfortable bedding and shelter support across the sanctuary. This ongoing climate pressure has created a significant financial strain on the sanctuary, making community support more important than ever. Founded in 2015, Rowdy Girl Sanctuary is the world’s first former beef cattle ranch transformed into a fully vegan farm animal sanctuary. Rowdy Girl is changing culture and changing the narrative in rural America. We are staffing the infrastructure that powers rescue, care, and cultural change. Today, we provide lifelong care to more than 140 rescued cows, pigs, chickens, goats, sheep, horses, and special-needs animals, many requiring intensive medical and individualized support. As the sanctuary prepares for unprecedented national and international visibility through the upcoming release of Rowdy Girl: Confessions of a Vegan Cattle Rancher and the expanding Rowdy Girl documentary impact tour, we are entering a transformational period of growth. At the heart of this next chapter is the development of one of the first specialized medical treatment facilities designed not only for aging and disabled bovines, but for the ongoing care of our entire herd. This facility will allow us to provide critical treatment onsite, reducing the need to trailer vulnerable animals an hour away to veterinary hospitals that primarily serve “food animal” departments rather than sanctuaries committed to seeing these animals as individuals deserving lifelong care.To meet this moment while maintaining exceptional animal care, Rowdy Girl is strengthening its staffing and operational infrastructure to sustainably expand its rescue, advocacy, and educational impact for years to come.
