			Surprise’s Story
Surprise has only ever known love and safety. Born to White Spot, one of our original herd members, his story began with a gasp and a laugh—Renee nearly stepped on him just after birth and exclaimed, “Surprise!” The name stuck, and so did his joyful spirit.
From day one, he and his mom have been inseparable, showing us how cows, like humans, are deeply family- and community-oriented. Today, Surprise is no longer that tiny calf—he’s a 1,500-pound steer with the playfulness of a big hound dog. He’ll nudge you with his head to say hello, but be careful: he doesn’t know his own strength, and one bump could knock you to the ground.

What makes him unforgettable are those big, white eyelashes that will make you swoon. Behind them is a soul that radiates gentleness, curiosity, love—and just enough mischief to make him a playful prankster.
Surprise will spend his entire life safe at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, never knowing the trauma of being separated from his mother or facing slaughter. Instead, he brings joy to everyone he meets, reminding us that cows are individuals with bonds, personalities, and a desire to live free—just like us.
