Tippy’s Story

Before the sanctuary project began, the founder named this calf Tippy. However, Tommy advised against naming him because he was destined for the sale barn. The founder firmly responded that Tippy wasn’t going, and in fact, none of the babies would be going this time. She couldn’t bear the thought of another red trailer heading to the sale barn.

Tippy is one of the original herd. Here, Tippy is shown as a tiny baby. He's a black cow.

Tommy was upset when he discovered that the founder had spent about two hours following the cows through the woods, observing their every move. It was during this time that she noticed the babies had best friends. All the cows nuzzle and show affection toward each other, forming special bonds with their close companions. As Tippy has grown, he has taken on the role of a babysitter. Whenever the younger cows’ mothers are off grazing, Tippy watches over the little ones, making sure they don’t wander too far or get into trouble—just like a human would do. Tippy is now safe, and he will never know anything but a good home.
