Sayter’s Story
Sayter is a young goat with endless curiosity, sass, and the best hugs you could imagine. Full of personality, he bounces between playful mischief and tender moments that show just how deeply he feels. But in the world of Future Farmers of America (FFA), Sayter’s future was grim. His Terminal Date was already set: October 4.
Everything changed on October 3, when Sayter arrived at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary—just one day before his life was scheduled to end. That morning, he stepped into freedom, into family, and into a forever home where his personality could shine instead of being silenced.
Sayter was raised by Symone, a 16-year-old student who dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. To gain “experience,” she was placed on an FFA track. At first, her family thought it was a great opportunity. But when Symone learned the truth of what FFA meant, her heart broke. Sayter wasn’t a project—he was her first real patient, her first step toward becoming a vet who leads with compassion.
Her mom, Shayla, shared:
“It became clear that our path with Sayter would look different. We don’t want to be part of the competition side of the industry. For us, the value is in teaching Symone how to care for animals humanely, with respect and compassion.”
Now, Sayter lives safe at Rowdy Girl, while Symone and her family have begun rethinking their food choices and hope to stay involved through our Medical Treatment Facility.
Sayter’s rescue shows how one animal’s life can change the lives of an entire family. That’s why Rowdy Girl created Families Choosing Compassion—to support students and parents alike as they navigate the painful realities of FFA and 4-H. Together, we are proving there’s a kinder way forward.
