Cornish Cross Chickens

Our six new Cornish Cross chickens have settled in and are enjoying their new lives free from fear and the threat of being victims of a cruel religious practice.

We received a call from a volunteer at Austin Farm Sanctuary who needed another sanctuary to help take in birds rescued in Brooklyn, NY by The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos.

The Alliance is an association of groups and individuals who seek to replace the use of chickens in Kaporos ceremonies with money or other non-animal symbols of atonement. The Alliance does not oppose Kaporos ceremonies, only the cruel and unnecessary use of chickens in the ceremony.

These beautiful, intelligent birds named Marshmallow, Snow White, Ivory, Cotton, Alabaster, and Crystal arrived here on my nine year vegan anniversary – what a gift!

Marshmallow passed away a month after she arrived. She had to be euthanized because she went down and could never get back up. One of the horrible facts about factory farmed birds is that they are bred for food and with that fact comes health consequences that can sometimes be tragic.
