Albert Schweitzer was absolutely right! I w Albert Schweitzer was absolutely right!

I was a meditation and yoga teacher for many years. I thought I was a pretty empathetic person. But nothing prepared me for the empathy overload I experienced when bottle-feeding Rowdy Girl as a calf.🐮

Suddenly my heart was filled to bursting. I experienced care and respect for both human and non-human animals like never before. I could relate to folks I never would have before, from all different backgrounds and belief systems.

When we leave animals off our plates, like Dr. Schweitzer did, we fully realize our humanity, and connect to all living beings in ways we could never have imagined.🙏🏻

If you've been inspired by our animal rights messaging, please support our sanctuary to help spread the message further. You can become a member for as little as $5/month (less than a cup of coffee at one of those fancy places)!

I REMEMBER LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY when Deborah Wrig I REMEMBER LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY when Deborah Wrigley of ABC Eyewitness News was at our Sanctuary. Whether in the news, magazines, documentaries, or podcasts, one story after another has created an interesting vibe for Rowdy Girl Sanctuary. Our love story of cattle ranchers turning vegan in the heart of Texas caught on, and somehow that magic has created a movement. BRING IT ON!

Looking back at this video featured on @abcnews I think about all we have been through to get to this point. All the love, sweat, tears, sacrifice, and peace now fills my heart because of this HUGE POSITIVE CHANGE we made and continue to stay committed to every day. My actions align with my heart now. I live in peace and love knowing we saved these individuals and that we will continue to save others for years to come.

IF YOU VALUE OUR ACTIVISM, PLEASE BECOME A MEMBER TODAY! Your membership dollars mean the world to us and are needed so that we can continue to grow our platform and activism to end animal suffering.
We are the first cattle ranch in the world that wa We are the first cattle ranch in the world that was bold enough to rescue their whole herd from slaughter and live to tell about it. We had 29 cows then, and I had a fundraiser in 2015 to buy my husband's herd. Rowdy Girl Sanctuary was born the day I did the unthinkable, the unimaginable–sometimes you just have to break out of the BOX OF REASON. Just because it’s always been done ONE WAY does not mean that it can’t be done another way. Believe it or not, the bovine species is not created to be our food. They have their own reasons for living and they do not sacrifice their life for us! WE BREED THEM, SELL THEM AND TAKE THEM! WE MURDER THEM, STEAL THEIR BABIES AND BELIEVE WE ARE RIGHTEOUS. WAKE UP! THIS AINT RIGHTEOUS YALL!

We rescue FFA and 4H animals like our lamb Gilbert, sheep, steer, and goats, all from the brink of slaughter houses. Some, like Jeddo, Dee Dee and Dexter were found in fields with their umbilical cords still attached. A whole flock of hens from Colorado who were about to have their heads ripped off found their way to safety in Texas. I can't tell you how many different stories I have and all that we have experienced with each animal here. Every intake is a gift. It means we have saved a life, and that's what drives me every single day. JUST YESTERDAY we saved another precious life–Brownie! Brownie was ripped from his mom at birth and was saved with afterbirth still all over him. MORE ON HIM NEXT WEEK!

The Rowdy Girl story never gets old, and Shriya did a great job asking the right questions so my followers can learn even more about who I am and what we believe in. SUPPORT OUR CAUSE AND ACTIVISM. Listen to the whole Animal Liberation Hour Podcast on YouTube - LINK IN BIO!

One of our longtime ROWDY GIRL members Liv Toepher One of our longtime ROWDY GIRL members Liv Toepher @livbydesign teaches yoga at LifePower Yoga at LifeTime in South Austin @lifetime.life She contacted me a couple of weeks ago about a volunteer project for her graduating class. Ahimsa means non-violence, and many yoga teachers (myself included) when we were first taught yoga didn't fully understand the deeper meaning of Ahimsa, which means non-violence to all beings.

Their focus was two-fold–connect with the animals AND fulfill their karma yoga requirements of service. I'm here to tell you that these girls fulfilled that mission in spades! They shoveled poop, painted a signpost, cleared brush, and moved a very heavy concrete picnic table that appeared to be impossible without a tractor! And we even had time to hang with the animals, see the cows, and we topped it all off with a walking meditation with Danny and Doogie and a silent, guided meditation in my yoga room. Talk about the whole experience! It was beautiful!

If you have a group of folks that you would like to bring out to Rowdy Girl for a volunteer day, just let me know - we are always willing to coordinate a unique volunteer day for your organization or club.

Meet Cindy & Richard Traylor former TX ranchers - Meet Cindy & Richard Traylor former TX ranchers - PROUD MEMBERS of RGS!

CINDY & RICHARD’S WHY

We own 20 acres and have raised cattle since 1997. In late 2018, one of my favorite momma cows, Honey, hurt her leg. This normally would mean going to the sale barn. I pleaded with Richard to let me find an alternative.

Living in Texas, I didn’t hold out much hope, but I found RGS. I left a message and Renee called back. I was frazzled. Renee sounded so concerned for Honey, I broke down and through my tears, I told Honey’s story. Renee told me she would do her best to find a place for her, which she did.

Renee and Tommy came to our home and we had a long chat about what they stood for. During our conversation, Richard recognized that being an environmentalist, he was a hypocrite if he took the cows to market!

We joined RAP that day! She set up zoom meetings with the “best of the best’ in agriculture and ranching. Individuals who gave us many ideas.

We continued to talk with them over the next year, to come up with ideas on what to do with our remaining cattle. We decided not to take another animal to the sale barn. RGS offered to take in our five remaining cattle; Monty, Minnie, Missy, Cinnie and Sammie! We took them to RGS, where they are happy!

We are zeroing in on starting a vertical farming operation. We want to provide vegan produce that is healthy and tasty. This entire time, Renee and Tommy have always been available to toss ideas back-and-forth and give us emotional support. The RAP team has boundless energy and we really appreciate all the help that has been offered--with no strings attached--completely free.

We are talking with a company that provides everything needed to start our venture. We keep Renee and Tommy informed and they continue to help by sending links to grants and loans and other business options. Without their encouragement and support, we would not have thought about this endeavor. We continue to work with them in order to educate other ranchers who may not see there can be a career path in agriculture that doesn’t use animals in a system that is cruel to all involved. Thank you, Renee and Tommy for all that you do. We love y’all!
What a fun day volunteering at @rowdygirlsanctuary What a fun day volunteering at @rowdygirlsanctuary with my Yoga Teacher Training gals for their Karma Project! They’ve all been Vegan for the entire YTT training and read the World Peace as part of their training, so what a glorious choice for the volunteer project - helping out on an Animal Sanctuary that rescues cattle from Slaughter & promotes veganism and Ahimsa for all beings! Renee guided us thru a beautiful meditation for our mid-day break!! Renee & Tommy, we had so much fun! We will come shovel poo for your precious animals any day! Haha! We love you guys! #texasisgoingvegan #rowdygirlsanctuary #yogateachertraining #ahimsa #karmaproject #lifepoweryoga #lifetime #yogateachers #govegan #alllifeissacred

Whether you gave birth, adopted or foster, or take care of fur babies, y'all understand the incredible bond of a mother and child. I never gave birth to children of my own, but from the moment I first bottle-fed Rowdy Girl, I understood that bond🤗

Now it extends to every single animal on the sanctuary. Every single one has unique wants and needs, and every single one has their own special love to give.

Here's a unique way to show your mother how much her love means to you. You can sign her up for Rowdy Girl Sanctuary Membership, and let her know you value the love of ALL Mothers!

That fundraiser was epic as Kip Andersen, who is now on our board and one of my friends, came out to support. It's the day Tommy went vegan, and it's also the day that our incredible member and supporter Joyce Christensen put $1000 in cash in my hands and told me that she was going vegan that day as a result of our message. Y'all Rowdy Girl Sanctuary is making history. THAT VERY DAY I got all the donations I needed to buy my husband's cows and create Rowdy Girl Sanctuary!! - thank you for believing in our message!

That day, 7 years ago, was magical! Houdini was in the pasture with us, and we had just rescued Herman, the Miracle Pig. With over 100 in attendance, our former cattle ranch was initiated with vegans as we made our mark on the Animal Rights scene.

AND, WE HAD THE BEST SPEAKERS EVER!

Dr. Philip Conklin, Lorena Mucke, Kip Andersen, Sofia Pineda Ochoa, and Kathy Landry had a unique vegan message and perspective. Also, remembering Erin Eder & Wild Cactus Rose, who entertained the crowd with a soulful delivery. Jim Pharis was a significant storyteller and soothed the crowd with his mellow magic. Michael Vybiral surprised us all with his vibrant personality, incredible charm, and graceful talent on both guitar and fiddle.

This all brings me so much joy and hope for the future of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary and the lifesaving work we are doing. Y'all, we can move mountains together, it's true! We thank you for supporting our festival. We ask that you continue to support our cause and all the activities we do. We are hopeful for the future, but we can't do it without you and your support!

The Rancher Advocacy Program is an organic outpour The Rancher Advocacy Program is an organic outpouring of what was brewing inside of me after I went vegan on our cattle ranch. After I went vegan our story started showing up on major news outlets and went viral. It started landing on the laps of everyday people. A lot of those people were cattle ranchers and chicken farmers.

Imagine these cattle ranchers sitting in their living room, and then we, fellow cattle ranchers, would be on the news, and all of a sudden, they would relate to us. The wives particularly began to reach out to me in tears, saying, "I saw your story and heard you talk about how YOU WENT AGAINST YOUR HUSBAND and how you loved these cows, and I don't have anyone else to talk to."

So kinda like in AA recovery, one alcoholic can talk to another. That's how RAP works. You know, you can't understand unless you've been there. So I began to have a program for recovering ranchers, especially their wives, and I didn't even know this was happening. As a result, I began to take on animals from other cattle ranchers. I would tell wives to go do what I did!! Tell your husband if he takes those cattle up to the sale barn one more time, YOU ARE GOING TO FOLLOW THEM AND BUY THEM ALL BACK!!! THAT'S WHAT I DID!

We have several animals here that have been rescued from cattle ranchers who have had a change of heart. It was a very organic conversation about how RAP actually started. I remember discussing this with a lady on our advisory committee about 5 years ago. I was asked what programming I wanted to have for Rowdy Girl, and I said, "well, I don't tell anyone this, but I help ranchers' wives a lot. Ever since our story went on the news, I talk to cattle ranchers ..." and she said: TELL ME MORE!"

THE DREAM BECAME A REALITY!
