May 2, 2015 – Fundraising event to create a sanctuary for 28 + cows

April 10, 2015 – Angleton, Texas – Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, Inc., founded in February 2015, is a budding 96-acre haven for farm animals located in Angleton, Texas, 50 miles southwest of Houston. The sanctuary’s founder, Renee King-Sonnen, is the wife of a fourth-generation cattle rancher. Renee couldn’t stand seeing the babies being separated from their mommas and taken in a red trailer “up the road” to slaughter any longer; especially after bottle feeding and raising one of the cows, Rowdy Girl, the sanctuary’s namesake, since birth.

Renee put her foot down in December 2014 and said she’d follow the red trailer to the sale barn, unless her husband consented to let the cows stay home until she figured out what to do with them. Who knew that the first ever grass fed, beef cattle ranch in Texas was about to make history.

Renee said, “To help deal with my feelings, I started a Facebook page entitled, “Vegan Journal of a Rancher’s Wife,” for the sole purpose of expressing the anxiety and emotions I was experiencing. In just four months, the page grew to 5,000 likes. The support I have received from people across the world has been humbling. People are really touched because of the intriguing and heartfelt endeavor. I have fallen in love with these animals and I see them as my family now!”

The drastic changes made over the course of just a few short months have changed the lives of the cows currently living on the ranch and future farm animals forever as a result of her vegan conversion. And Renee’s husband, Tommy, who was once the antagonist, has now joined forces with her on a mission to launch and establish the first ever vegan farm sanctuary in Texas.

Renee and Tommy are striving to live a vegan lifestyle and are in the process of raising $35,000. Renee is well on her way to meeting this financial goal, which will transfer ownership of the cattle into the sanctuary. In addition to the Indiegogo campaign (http://bit.ly/1Ixyv8S) to help fund this endeavor, Rowdy Girl Sanctuary is hosting a fundraiser on May 2, 2015.
